PlaqueMaker donates a beautiful granite plaque award to a school in celebration of 100 years of teaching Respect and Responsibility to the children of Decatur, Illinois.
One hundred years ago today, Mary W. French Academy was founded as a liberal arts school for all Decatur, IL Public School students. The K-6 program focuses on reading, writing, speaking, and on local, state and national history, using hands-on teaching techniques and practicums, supplementary curriculum materials and innovative practices. The Academy creates a positive environment for children to explore their self-worth and develop self- confidence, including responsibility, respect for others, and good citizenship.
As part of the 100th Anniversary celebration, Mrs. Roberts’ sixth grade class is inspired to implement a very good and thoughtful idea, one that PlaqueMaker is honored to contribute to. We’ll let the class tell you about it themselves:
As a gift to our school for its 100th birthday, we wanted to plant a tree. As sixth graders we did not have the funds to provide our school with this elaborate gift.
Since we were in a unit on persuasive writing, we researched companies that may be able to help us with our project and wrote to those companies requesting their services. Four E’s Trees in Mt. Zion, Illinois is donating a tree and this plaque will accompany our tree.
Our celebration is May 1. We cannot wait until we can drive by our school and stop and see the tree we were a part of planting and the plaque that sits at its base dedicating the tree to our school from our class. Thank you for our beautiful plaque.
