Promote your independent retailer business, pledge to shop at independent retailers or rally your community to support the local independent retailers this July.

Across the country, folks are dedicating July to celebrate independent retailers in their area – highlighting the positive economic and social impact mom and pop shops make locally, nationally and globally. Independent retailers are the backbone of our communities, and family-owned businesses add diversity along the main streets and places where we come together to live, work and play – like PlaqueMaker! We’re celebrating 15 years this year as a family-owned and operated company, and we’re proud to call Fortville, Indiana our home.

According to the Indiana Main Street program:

● All the making, buying and selling you keep in the community is far more economically productive for the community than anything that simply flows through the community

● Indiana Main Streets and others have determined that only 6 cents of every dollar spent with a big box retailer stays in the community.

● For a chain store it’s 20 cents of every dollar, but every dollar spent with a sole proprietorship keeps 60 cents circulating in the community

The state’s coordinating program to the National Main Street Center, Indiana Main Street encourages the revitalization and restoration of downtown areas in Indiana cities and towns, providing technical assistance and educational opportunities to participating communities.
