Feng Shui is an ancient Chinese practice of creating harmonious surroundings that enhance the balance of yin and yang. Used primarily in architectural and interior design, the principles of Feng Shui determine the placement of furniture and accessories, a room, an entire building –even a grave to maximize the flow of energy (qi) and that of the person or people who occupy the place, in an effort to bring good fortune.

Bamboo itself is an amazing material that brings a peaceful and wise energy into your home. Feng shui experts say the energy of bamboo teaches an “ultimate wisdom”, how to be flexible and open on the inside, so that the spirit can freely flow and heal your being.

Bamboo growing in your garden can add a soothing, transcendental sound to the environment, much like bamboo flooring or bamboo wind chimes. The use of lucky bamboo is a popular feng shui “cure” for the home or office that encourages “good feng shui.” The little indoor bamboo plant is considered lucky in feng shui when it represents all five feng shui elements a harmonious universe:

● Like all plants, the lucky bamboo plant itself expresses the Wood

● The rocks that the lucky bamboo grows in represent the Earth

● The water the lucky bamboo grows with is essentially the Water

● The red ribbon tied around the lucky bamboo is a symbol for the Fire

● The glass pot that houses the lucky bamboo belongs to the Metal If the lucky bamboo is planted in a ceramic pot, it will likely include a Chinese metal coin or a metal figurine in the planting for luck.

The number of lucky bamboo stalks also has a specific meaning:

● 2 for Love & Marriage

● 3 for Happiness

● 5 for Health

● 8 for Wealth and Abundance

● 9 for Good Fortune

Even though feng shui lucky bamboo is easy to care for and a very tolerant plant (as is all bamboo), its peaceful vitality and strong growth needs love and attention to thrive. Placing the lucky bamboo in the Southeast and East feng shui areas of your home will enhance its “cure.”

Bamboo – Ecological Wonder

Bamboo material comprises several varieties of fast-growing grass that grows all over the world in nearly every climate. High quality, carefully cultivated bamboo culms have incredible strength that can rival steel. Since ancient times, bamboo has been used in construction and to create weapons and paper. In modern times, it can be used to construct bicycles, utensils, fabric, furniture and thousands of other products. Various sources report that bamboo produces up to 35% more oxygen than a stand of trees. Because it grows so efficiently, it is considered a highly sustainable plant.
