The Chief’s Cup golf tournament, fundraising for the Coast Guard and community causes, features our custom awards this year! Dave Heimbuch, a retired Coast Guard Senior Chief, spoke with us to arrange a donation for the event. PlaqueMaker proudly donated a perpetual plaque as one of the awards for the 16th annual Chief’s Cup winners!
The active duty winners and their unit will display our plaque all year, in addition to the Chief’s Cup trophy. Every year, winners must defend their awards, so our custom plaques will join many tournaments to come. Thank you, Senior Chief Heimbuch, for the opportunity to participate!

The United States Coast Guard’s CPOA (Chief Petty Officer's Association) originally formed in 1933. Its vision statement stands, "In respect for those that have gone before us, and as a guide for those who follow."
This year, Heimbuch’s Chapter of the Coast Guard’s CPOA will host another Chief’s Cup fundraising event on September 14th. The Chief’s Cup offers a free day of golf, and even a Coast Guard helicopter flyover.
However, it is also a day of recognition and dignified remembrance, held around Patriot Day. It begins with an honorary ceremony, in memory of those lost on 9/11/2001. The event closes with a celebration for enlisted Coast Guard members and other guests.
Heimbuch explains the Chief’s Cup invites "all junior enlisted Coast Guard service members under our purview." It also includes representation for all United States military, as well as other notable guests.
"We will have active-duty members, military retirees, disabled veterans, spouses and civilian financial supporters of our Chapter in attendance," Heimbuch adds.

Senior Chief Heimbuch’s Chapter is a not-for-profit organization based in Grand Haven, Michigan. Primarily, the Chapter aids junior enlisted Coast Guard service members during times of need, throughout the year.
As such, the Chief’s Cup provides far more than a recognition ceremony for our Coast Guard heroes. The Chief’s Cup tournament raises crucial funds to help military personnel, their families, community causes, and more!
For example, the Chapter’s official website mentions support for Adopt a Highway and Toys for Tots. It also has a dedicated “fundraising” section to provide regular updates about new opportunities for donations and sponsorship.

Heimbuch elaborates on another local cause—"the opportunity to steward Escanaba Park," also located in Grand Haven.
The Senior Chief tells us this park was dedicated to the crew of the Coast Guard Cutter Escanaba. The crew suffered a great tragedy as a convoy escort during World War II, leaving only two surviving crewmembers. Escanaba Park features the original mast and lifeboat of this vessel, which Heimbuch’s Chapter services for preservation and display.
The Chapter also helped develop a National Memorial Brick Garden in Escanaba Park. The area "commemorates every Coast Guard servicemember who lost their life in the line of duty since the year 1790." This massive undertaking identified countless heroes, and added custom paver bricks for dignified memorials.
