"I want to start off by thanking you for your contributions to my Eagle Scout Project," Seth Knoop tells us. "The project had amazing results and I wanted to share with you how your help truly benefitted the project."

The Historic Lifeboat Station is once known as the Point Reyes Life-Saving Station. It opens in 1890 with a crew of eight and a seasoned keeper to patrol the beaches looking for shipwrecks and surviving crew. Seth and members of his Scout Troop have a special opportunity to stay the night in its barracks before waking the next morning to a gorgeous sunrise, a day of restoration work and reflection.

"It was located on a pier with an astonishing view of the bay. We then woke up early the next morning to hike Point Reyes and take in firsthand the waters our life savers protected ... truly an amazing experience firsthand."

The group also explore the newly refurbished Motor Life Boat CG-36542. Seth says, "The boat is completely authentic; it was used by the Coast Guard and is now stored in the boat house of the Lifeboat Station where it can still get underway for certain events."

Seth's renovation project starts with replacing fences, then moves to creating new planter boxes for the memorial sites and sprucing up the area, giving it the presentation it deserves.

"The crowning jewel and most prestigious moment of my project was replacing the Unknown Lifesaver's headstone with a new one that honors the lifesaver with a plaque and a Life Saving Service pennant."

"A big thank you to all those who helped or contributed in any way. Thank you to my Scout Troop 132; the Petaluma, Charleston, and New Haven CPOA Chapters, the Golden Gate CWOA, The Polar Star Chief's Mess and all my family, especially my father who encouraged me and supported me through this entire project. I could not have done this without your help."

Seth earns a Coast Guard coin and receives a Chief's Anchor - and a $200 check - to congratulate him for his work.

"The plaques you made for us were put to good use," Seth's father, KC Knoop, Retired U.S. Coast Guard, tells us. "We got a lot done that day from rebuilding fences to replacing that headstone. Thanks so much for your help in the matter."
