Simply called Coffee Day and definitely known as National Coffee Day – this holiday is popular all over the world (hence the “international” moniker). It’s a chance to get together with loved ones and enjoy your favorite cup of caffeine at your local coffee shop. You probably won’t have to go far – our love affair with coffee supports thousands of corner coffee houses where espressos, americanos, lattes and cappuccinos abound. It’s the social thing to do!

Pick your poison – whether it’s a cuppa joe or hot chocolate; lemon water, almond milk or apple cider; London Fog, Chai, Russian Tea or Dandelion Latte (there is such a thing, it’s true!) – enjoying a hot drink is just the recipe for comfort.

In the era of cell phones, people are debating the demise of old-fashioned etiquette. “Eyes-on-the-phone” has replaced eye contact. Rather than in-person connection, we communicate through social media posts, likes, and emojis.

The first Sunday of August was declared an American holiday by a Proclamation made by the United States Congress over 85 years ago, in 1935. Other countries have been inspired by its popularity and success in the U.S. and now, Friendship Day is celebrated around the world. In April 2011, the United Nations made July 30th International Friendship Day. Whether you celebrate the first Sunday of August or on July 30th, Friendship Day is a great day to celebrate your existing friendships through appreciation or foster new ones!
